LUCKNOW, July 14 -- Two men who helped crooks steal Rs 1.29 crore from an ex-official of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI)-Bareilly in the guise of CBI officers were nabbed by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police near Shaheed Path in Lucknow on Sunday, a note by STF stated. Four arrests were previously made in the case. A few days ago, the retired scientist was cheated by fraudsters who said they had arrested him "digitally", it added. The arrested individuals were identified as Pradeep Kumar Singh, 50, who claimed to be the director of a real estate firm, and Mahfuz, 21, who allegedly opened a bank account and provided it to a gang for a commission. The STF officials said Singh allegedly allowed the cybercriminals to access his firm's bank account to transfer the stolen amount for a commission, which was in cryptocurrency (USDT). The retired scientist, Shukdev Nandi, filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bareilly.
