Lucknow, July 27 -- A hostel in Tirupati Vihar, under Izzatnagar police station in Bareilly, was found operating on stolen electricity, a senior UPPCL official said adding, the facility was run by the widow of a retired electricity department employee. "Acting on a tip-off, the discom's raid team along with a vigilance squad conducted a surprise inspection on Thursday evening. The team discovered a direct three-phase power connection drawn from an electric pole to her residence and then a single-phase cable extending to the hostel in a nearby building," the officials said. A video of the illegal setup was recorded, and the power theft was assessed at Rs 2.43 lakh, including an assessment of Rs 2.23 lakh and a summons fee of Rs 20,000.
