Pithoragarh, July 6 -- Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Inspector General of Uttarakhand Police Vimla Gunjyal was on Saturday elected unopposed as the gram pradhan of Gunji village, her ancestral village in the Vyans Valley of Pithoragarh district. "She was elected unopposed as the Gram Pradhan of Gunji, as no other candidate filed nomination papers for the post," said Pramod Mishra, the Returning Officer for the Gram Pradhan elections in Dharchula. According to election officials, five people initially expressed interest in contesting the election but later withdrew in support of the retired IPS officer.
