Haridwar, Dec. 30 -- Local residents demanding the construction of a link road between Kotdwar (Pauri Garhwal) and Haridwar districts, which come under forest terrain, have warned of boycotting the assembly polls scheduled in 2027, if that motor link road is not built before the polls, people familiar with the matter said. For the past 100 days, local residents have been staging sit-in-protest at Chillarkhal, demanding for construction of motorable road connectivity between Kotdwar and Haridwar, terming it as lifeline of border and adjacent areas between the Pauri Garhwal and Haridwar districts. "We will leave no stone unturned for Chillarkhal-Laldhang motor road construction. Local residents, comprising dozens of villages, have to tread an extra distance through Neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to reach either side of Kotdwar-Haridwar, which will get evaded if this forest motor road gets constructed. We will also stage a protest outside the state assembly in the coming winter session," said Rasoolpur village head Kamlesh Dwivedi. Laldhang-Chillarkhal Road Committee has decided to stage a major rally at Laldhang on Tuesday. "On Tuesday we will stage a major protest at Laldhang in which people from the Kotdwar-Bhabhar-Chillarkhal-Laldhang-Shyampur area will participate in large numbers. On Sunday our agitation completed 100 days and now we will intensify our agitation through the Laldhang rally," said committee convener Praveen Thapa.Sankalp Foundation president Inderjeet Singh Rawat pointed that Kotdwar lacks higher medical facilities so patients usually go to AIIMS-Rishikesh, Himalayan hospital, Jollygrant and other hospitals in Dehradun, but going via Najibabad leads to additional duration, which by old Laldhang-Chillarkhal road can be lessened, benefiting patients, students, working people who committee to Haridwar-Rishikesh-Dehradun and vice versa from these areas to Kotdwar. Notably, this 26 km road, passing through Laldhang-Chillarkhal-Bhabhar area links Haridwar and Kotdwar-the two cities regarded as two gateways to the hill state. Localites term it as the lifeline of Kotdwar-Bhabhar and Laldhang areas, as daily hundreds of commuters , working professionals, Jasodharpur-Siggudi industrial unit factory employees, students, milk vendors, Gujjars, tourists visiting, Shri Siddh Bali temple, Kanva Ashram and Lansdowne hill town use this link road....
