Residents, traders grapple with hours-long power disruptions
LUCKNOW, Oct. 6 -- Power outages across Lucknow on Saturday and Sunday left thousands of residents and businesses without electricity and water for several hours, causing widespread disruption.
Aminabad's Gadbadjhala market faced one of the worst impacts when a transformer failed at 1 pm, cutting supply to nearly 300 shops for over seven hours.
Frustrated traders staged a protest at the local power substation, demanding urgent restoration.
"It's the festive season, and we've been facing power cuts for a week now. Business has been severely affected," Priyank Gupta, president of Gadbadjhala Market Association, said.
Other areas including Kakori, Dubagga, Mohanlalganj, and Gosainganj, experienced outages due to underground cable faults and technical breakdowns.
Heavy rainfall worsened the situation as tree branches fell on power lines. Many households faced water shortages as the supply was not restored until early morning.
Mohanlalganj substation broke down at 4 am, disrupting Fatekheda and Kanakha feeders until 7 am.
Gosainganj and Radha Gram substations went offline overnight, affecting power until early morning or late evening on Sunday. In Gomti Nagar Extension, areas such as Makdumpur, Vardankhand, and Sulabh Awas also endured prolonged outages.
A blast at the Basant Kunj substation panel left Lala Bagh and nearby areas without electricity, intensifying water shortages.
A fault in the 220 kV Hardoi Road transmission line disrupted supply from Radha Gram substation, impacting thousands of households.
Officials said work to restore electricity was underway. Executive engineer Sushil Kumar confirmed that a temporary trolley transformer was deployed in Aminabad. Sub-divisional officer Itbar Ahmad reported underground cable faults in Dubagga and the surrounding areas....
