BAHRAICH, Aug. 12 -- Tension gripped Bahraich district's Padohiya village under Mahasi tehsil after a religious structure (Chabutra) that local revere as "Gaonwat Mata Sthan" was found partially damaged on Monday, police said.The incident came to light in the morning when devotees arrived there for worship. Locals alleged that some anti-social elements vandalised the structure and also cut down several trees on the premises.Confirming the incident, circle officer, Kaiserganj, Ravi Khokhar said six people had been detained and a case under section 4/10 of the Forest (Conservation) Act and section 258 A of the BNS had been registered in this connection. A heavy police force had also been deployed at the site, he added. Meanwhile, Mahasi MLA Sureshwar Singh said he had spoken to the CM and the DGP to make sure that those responsible faced condign punishment.
