Religious conversion: KGMU asks female staff to report cases
Lucknow, Jan. 5 -- In a move aimed at uncovering other cases, if any, related to religious conversions, the King George's Medical University (KGMU), has pasted notices outside the offices of its departments mentioning that all female faculty members, resident doctors, students and staff working or studying at the medical university can report if any of them have been subjected to any kind of pressure, inducement or temptation for religious conversion.
The move comes close on the heels of a recent incident wherein a senior doctor was accused by a woman doctor of sexual exploitation and exerting pressure to convert her religion for marriage.
As per the KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh, a seven-member committee has been constituted to look into such matters as per the instructions of the medical university's vice-chancellor. The information can be submitted in a confidential envelope and the informant can choose to remain anonymous. If the informant provides their identity, it will be kept strictly confidential, said the notice.
Singh said the KGMU offices were closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The email ID issued to report any information regarding any religious conversion bid will be checked on Monday....
