Relief to Rathore as HC stays arrest in 2 cases
Dehradun, Jan. 7 -- The state high court on Tuesday granted interim relief to former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Suresh Rathore by staying his arrest in two cases registered against him in Haridwar and Dehradun districts.
FIRs were registered against Rathore alleging he circulated videos and audio clips on social media platforms, including Facebook, with the intention of tarnishing the image of BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam.
The court also issued notices to the state government and the complainants, seeking their responses within four weeks.
After hearing the matter, a single-judge bench of justice Ashish Naithani passed the interim order in the cases filed at Bahadrabad police station in Haridwar district and Nehru Colony police station in Dehradun district.
Vaibhav Singh Chauhan, counsel for Suresh Rathore, informing about the court's orders, said, "The court has granted interim protection from arrest and has issued notices to the respondents. The petitions seek quashing of the FIRs filed against him," Chauhan said.
Police officials said that a total of four FIRs have been registered against Rathore in connection with a purported audio clip in which he allegedly implicated a senior BJP leader in the murder of the Pauri district resort receptionist.
One FIR was lodged at Bahadrabad police station in Haridwar on the complaint of Dharmendra Kumar, president of the Shiromani Guru Ravidas Vishva Mahapeeth.
The second case was registered at Jhabrera police station on the complaint of Sanchit Kumar.
The third FIR was filed at Nehru Colony police station in Dehradun on the complaint of former local BJP leader Arti Gaur, whose name was mentioned in the alleged audio. The fourth FIR was registered at Dalanwala police station on the complaint of Gautam....
