Relief to be disbursed within 24 hours for rain-hit farmers: Govt
LUCKNOW, March 29 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has directed all district magistrates to complete crop loss assessments from unseasonal rain, hailstorm, lightning, and strong winds, and distribute relief amounts to affected farmers within 24 hours.
Aparna U, principal secretary, revenue, issued the orders on Saturday while reviewing relief operations, following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directions. She said any laxity in public welfare work would not be tolerated, ordering strict action against erring officials.
District magistrates have been asked to personally interact with affected families to ensure timely compensation for crop damage, human casualties, house damage, and livestock loss. The government confirmed no funds shortage, noting Rs.20 crore has been released to districts since March 15. Officials were instructed to widely disseminate weather alerts. The India meteorological department (IMD) has warned of continued adverse weather through March 31. Citizens facing issues in receiving relief can lodge complaints on toll-free number 1070.
Official data shows that between March 15 and 28, the state reported 17 deaths, 11 livestock losses, and crop damage across 1,661.75 hectares, mainly in Saharanpur and Lalitpur....
