Reels with snakes: Forest dept lodges case against youth
Lakhimpur Kheri, July 30 -- A youth identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Gola Gokarannath, popularly known as "Chhoti Kashi," landed in serious trouble after his social media reels with endangered snakes went viral.
On Tuesday, forest officials of Gola forest range, under the south Kheri forest division, registered a case against him under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, following complaints about his viral reels.
Divisional forest officer Sanjay Biswal said the accused youth had posted reels showcasing a Common Sand Boa and a Cobra, both protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act as endangered species.
Possessing or harming these snakes is strictly prohibited under the act.
Biswal added on receiving complaints about the viral reels posted by the youth, a case under appropriate sections of the Wildlife Protection Act had been lodged and further proceedings were in progress.
Meanwhile, embarrassed with the developments, the youth posted another apology video on his social media handle in which he said that during the month of Sawan, snake charmers visited Gola and some of them came to his shop (Arvind Garments at Khutar road of Gola town).
He said that out of curiosity, he made the reels with the snakes. He expressed his apology for his act.
