Recce by day, burglary by night; two held
LUCKNOW, Feb. 24 -- Two vegetable vendors who allegedly used their daily rounds to target locked homes were arrested by a joint team of the Crime Branch and Madiaon Police on Monday. Police recovered stolen jewellery worth around Rs.18 lakh from their possession.
According to police, the duo worked as vegetable sellers and would conduct recce in residential localities during the day under the guise of selling vegetables. They identified houses that were locked or where residents were away. Later at night or during deserted hours, they would return to break open locks or windows and decamp with gold, silver ornaments and cash. "The accused Sonu Verma alias Boga, 42 and Sunder Lal Gupta, 40 were apprehended from under the Madiaon bridge while riding a motorcycle following a tip-off. Around 100 grams of yellow metal (gold) and nearly 1 kg of white metal (silver) jewellery were recovered, including chains, earrings, bangles, anklets, a mangalsutra, silver utensils and other items," said ADCP North Rishabh Runwal in a presser. Police also seized Rs.8,800 in cash and two mobile phones.
The arrests led to the successful detection of three burglary cases, two registered at Madiaon police station and one at Sairpur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
"Police said both accused are repeat offenders with multiple cases of theft, Arms Act and Gangster Act registered against them in the past. The motorcycle used in the crimes has been seized," added the ADCP....
