RBI Lko reports detecting counterfeit currency, FIR lodged
LUCKNOW, July 25 -- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Lucknow branch, has reported detecting counterfeit currency totaling Rs.3,050. The fake notes were identified in June 2025 by internal audit mechanisms at the public exchange counters and claims division of the RBI.
According to the FIR filed at the Mahanagar police station, a copy of which HT has, the incident came to light following a formal written complaint submitted by the RBI manager, Lakhvinder Puar.
The FIR registered under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, details the recovery of 18 counterfeit notes including nine of Rs.50, six of Rs.100, two of Rs.200, and one Rs.2,000 note.Police have begun an investigation, with Sub-Inspector Himanshu Pratap Singh assigned to the case. The identity of the perpetrator(s) remains unknown at this time, and no arrests have been made so far. ....
