Lucknow, Sept. 4 -- An assistant commissioner of State Tax in Rampur was arrested for taking bribe by the Vigilance Establishment's Bareilly team on Wednesday, officials in Lucknow said. They said the accused demanded money for registering the GST details of a proposed firm. An official note said Satish Kumar, who is posted as State Tax assistant commissioner in Rampur, demanded a bribe of Rs.25,000 to register GST details of a firm that was to be in the name of the complainant's wife. "After much persuasion by the complainant, he agreed to accept the bribe in two instalments, of Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000. The complainant lodged a written complaint with the superintendent of police (Vigilance) in Bareilly. Based on the confirmation of the allegations, the vigilance team arrested the accused red-handed," the official stated. An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, and necessary action is being taken....
