Ram, Sita, Lakshman arrive by air for Ayodhya Deepotsav
AYODHYA, Oct. 20 -- : The "gods" quite literally descended from the heavens in Ayodhya on Sunday afternoon, as artistes portraying Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman arrived at Ram Katha Park by helicopter. The dramatic entry, part of the grand Deepotsav celebrations led by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, recreated the triumphant return of Ram to Ayodhya aboard the mythical Pushpak Viman as described in the Ramayan.
Chief minister Adityanath welcomed the artistes and performed a symbolic coronation of Lord Ram, who was dressed in traditional attire and a glittering crown.
As the ceremony unfolded, a helicopter showered flower petals on the gathering, adding to the festive grandeur.
The CM, along with BJP MLA Ved Prakash Gupta and Ayodhya mayor Girish Pati Tripathi, pulled the chariot carrying Ram and Sita from the helipad to the main venue at Ram Katha Park.
A ceremonial aarti was then performed by the CM, followed by ministers Surya Pratap Shahi and Jaiveer Singh, and Champat Rai, general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Meanwhile, the state tourism department, in collaboration with Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University and the district administration, aimed to set a new world record by lighting over 26 lakh earthen lamps across 56 ghats along the Saryu River, including the majestic Ram Ki Paidi, on Diwali eve....
