Rajasthan: IMD predicts heavy rain in 28 distts today
Jaipur, June 21 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 28 districts for Saturday after the monsoon made an early entry in the state last week, according to an official statement.
"The circulation system remained in the same area over eastern Rajasthan today (on Friday). Another well marked low, which is located over Jharkhand, is likely to move slowly in the north-western direction. Due to this system, there was moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts across Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, and Jodhpur divisions on Friday. Such monsoon activity will be continued on Saturday as well during which Bharatpur and Kota may also experience extremely heavy rainfall," said Radhe Shyam Sharma, chief of IMD centre in Jaipur.
On Friday, the IMD issued an orange alert across Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Nagaur, Ajmer, Tonk, Karauli, and Sawai Madhopur. A yellow alert was also issued in Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Pali, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in many places as roads caved in several places, many areas got waterlogged, and one lockgate of the Kota Barrage has been opened following rising water levels in the river.
Jaipur, which recorded 110 mm rainfall on Friday, witnessed a part of two busy roads in Mansarovar and Gopalpura bypass being caved in while another busy area near the Walled City, Mirza Ismail Road, was waterlogged.
Superintendent Engineer of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Deepak Mathur, said, "The road that got damaged in Gopalpura Bypass's TN Mishra Marg had a damaged water supply line for a long time. We have asked the PHED officials to fix the line so that we can initiate the road repairing work."
Meanwhile, another senior official from the Kota district collectorate said: "At around 7 am, one gate of Kota Barrage was opened at 3 feet. About 3,723 cusecs of water is being released from here.
As per the IMD details, the maximum of 114 mm rainfall was recorded in Bhilwara's Bijoliya on Friday followed by 110 mm in Jaipur's Phulera and Kota's Ramganjmandi, Banswara, Bhilwara's Shahpura, 100 mm in Chittorgarh's Nimbahera, Banswara's Kesarpura, Bundi's Nainwa, 90 mm in Baran's Shahbad, Karauli's Todabhim, Jhalawar's Jhalrapatan, 80 mm in Banwara's Kushalgarh....
