Bikaner, Nov. 9 -- A 40-year-old woman was booked on Saturday for allegedly strangling her five-hour-old son to death at a government hospital in Bikaner, police said, adding that she has confessed to the crime and cited financial stress as the reason. "The woman delivered a boy around 11pm on November 6, but became upset shortly after, citing severe financial hardship and her inability to care for a fifth child," station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station, Sukhram Chotia, said citing the complaint by the elder sister. The police suspect that the strangulation occurred sometime between 2am and 4am in the maternity ward while family members were asleep. "The baby was discovered motionless the following morning by the elder sister who noticed visible marks on the infant's neck. Doctors pronounced the child dead upon examination. When confronted, the woman reportedly confessed to her sister," said an officer aware of the matter. "The woman told us that her husband had a brain haemorrhage and is unable to work. She confessed that their financial condition is poor and therefore she did not want this child," SHO Chotia said, adding that the post-mortem examination has confirmed the infant was strangled. "A murder case has been registered against the woman based on the complaint by her sister. She is currently undergoing treatment and will be arrested once discharged," he said. In her complaint, the 45-year-old elder sister stated that the woman had been under severe mental and emotional strain. "Her husband suffered a brain haemorrhage about a decade ago, leaving him paralysed... The family's poor financial condition had pushed her into depression and hopelessness," added the officer, citing the complaint....
