Jaipur, Dec. 3 -- Rajasthan has become the ninth state to rename its Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan, following an order issued by governor Haribhau Bagade. This renaming, which takes effect on December 1, marks a significant move away from colonial legacies, reflecting a shift towards embracing Indian democratic values and culture, the governor's office said in an official statement. "The governor has issued an order to rename Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan in Rajasthan which will be considered to be enforced from December 1. This initiative is another step to get rid of the colonial mentality and step forward to the Indian culture and philosophy," the statement added. Governor Bagade explained that the term "Raj" is associated with British rule, which is why it has been replaced after directives from the ministry of home affairs. He highlighted, "India is the largest democracy in the world. Our Constitution starts with: 'We, the people of India'. 'People' are the primary component in a democracy and therefore Raj Bhavan must be known as Lok Bhavan. With this change, Lok Bhavan will reflect the ideas and thoughts of the people."
