KANPUR, Oct. 1 -- Green Park Stadium, September, rain and cricket seem to have a deep connection with all the matches held in this stadium in the last nine years. September probably does not suit this venue and this happened even on Tuesday when the first unofficial one-day encounter between India A and Australia A on was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain. Incessant rain did not allow even the toss to take place in the day-night encounter, leaving players and fans frustrated before the match referee called it a day at five in the evening. In fact, North and Central India continue to face rains till the first week of September and October due to late monsoon for the last several years, affecting the matches here. Last year too, not even a single ball could be bowled during the India vs Bangladesh Test at this venue due to wet outfield for two days. This wasn't all as the first edition of the UPTwenty20 League too was affected by rain in September in 2023. In September 2016, the match between India and New Zealand too was affected. On Tuesday, the teams of India A and Australia A reached the stadium at 12.00 noon and began practice after the covers were removed. Outside the stadium, spectators' long queues were waiting for the entry with tickets. But before the toss could take place at 12.30, rain started and continued till late in the evening. Now, the second one-day match of the three-match series will be played on Friday at this venue, before the third one on Sunday. Team India's heroes at the Asia Cup, where India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the event for the ninth time, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma too will be in action for India A under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Earlier, the two-match unofficial Test series between the sides had ended 1-0 in India A's favour after the hosts won the second match....
