Rain batters Prayagraj, Ganga swells
PRAYAGRAJ, July 6 -- Heavy rainfall in Sangam city on Saturday afternoon led to severe waterlogging across several areas, disrupting normal life and making commuting difficult, particularly in low-lying localities. This marked the ninth consecutive day of rising water levels in both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, attributed to continuous rainfall across the state and daily discharge of water from the Kanpur Barrage.
Weather conditions shifted rapidly on Saturday. While the day began with clear skies and high humidity, overcast conditions developed by 1 pm, followed by intense rainfall between 2:30 pm and 5 pm.
According to data from the Flood Control Room, the Ganga River at Phaphamau rose by 24 cm and at Chatnag by 17 cm in the 24-hour period between 8 am on Friday and 8 am on Saturday. Similarly, the Yamuna River at Naini recorded an 18 cm rise....
