PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 27 -- With preparations underway for Magh Mela-2026 and an exceptionally high influx of pilgrims anticipated, the North Central Railway (NCR) has overhauled its crowd-management strategy for the duration of the annual religious fair. During his recent visit to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath estimated that 12 to 15 crore pilgrims are expected to attend the event-the first major congregation after the Mahakumbh-2025. In view of the massive footfall, NCR has decided to reintroduce the colour-coding system for Yatri Ashrayas (Passenger Resting Areas), a mechanism earlier deployed during the Mahakumbh, railway officials said. Confirming the development, Amit Singh, PRO of Prayagraj division, said that under the plan, the Red Shed will cater to general passengers travelling toward Lucknow and Varanasi; the Blue Shed to those heading toward Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (Mughalsarai); the Yellow Shed to passengers bound for Manikpur, Satna, and Jhansi; and the Green Shed to travellers going toward Kanpur. Additionally, a separate shelter will be created for passengers holding reserved tickets for all directions. Depending on crowd pressure, NCR may also extend the colour-coded system to the Jhunsi, Naini, Chheoki and Prayag railway stations, officials said....
