Meerut, Nov. 25 -- Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday inaugurated two new trains at Baraut railway station in Baghpat district, marking a significant boost for connectivity across the Delhi-Saharanpur route. Addressing a gathering at the event, the minister said extensive work is underway to modernise the corridor, which will directly benefit teachers, traders and students who frequently travel along this stretch. Vaishnaw announced that renovation and doubling of the line will begin soon, paving the way for a modernised and high-capacity route. He further revealed that two new crossing stations will be constructed from October onwards to ease train movement and reduce congestion. Highlighting the rapid development, the minister said the Indian Railways is operating in "mission mode" with large-scale reforms. "Earlier, the railway budget stood at Rs.1,000 crore. Today, it has been increased to Rs.20,000 crore," he said. Vaishnaw added that Uttar Pradesh alone has seen 5,272 kilometres of new tracks laid in the past 11 years, surpassing Switzerland's total of 5,000 kilometres, and that the region now enjoys 100% railway electrification. Minister of state Jayant Chaudhary, who was also present, announced that the government will allocate a Rs.60,000-crore budget under the new 'PM Setu' initiative to modernise ITIs across the country. He said India is witnessing rapid industrial expansion, leading to growing employment opportunities. Chaudhary also highlighted advancements in computer and mobile app development, noting that young talent from modern-day Baghpat is actively contributing to the sector. Commenting on the Bihar elections, he said the people have delivered a "historic verdict," while accusing the opposition of lacking constructive issues and spreading negativity. The introduction of the two new trains is expected to bring significant relief to passengers from Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Muzaffarnagar. Residents anticipate smoother travel, improved trade mobility, and easier daily commuting for thousands across the region....
