LUCKNOW, July 7 -- In an unusual turn of events, the reservation status on the BSBS (Banaras)-Okha Express was downgraded from "Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC)" to "Waiting List (WL)" for two out of three berths after chart preparation, prompting the passenger to raise the issue on social media. The passenger, identified as Shailendra Yadav, had booked tickets for July 5 to travel from Banaras in Uttar Pradesh to Chayapuri in Gujarat. "Before the final chart was prepared, the status for the three passengers under the same PNR showed RAC 46, RAC 47, and RAC 48 - indicating partial confirmation with eligibility to board. However, once the chart was released, the status shockingly changed to B4/17 (confirmed), WL/, and WL/6," said Yadav. He added only one seat was confirmed while the other two slipped into the waiting list. Distressed over this unusual change, Yadav tweeted tagging Indian Railways and the RailMadad service, demanding an explanation on how RAC could regress to WL after chart preparation. Responding to his post, RailMadad replied, "Your complaint has been registered on RailMadad and the complaint number has been sent through SMS on your mobile number. You may track your complaint via this link." For the unversed, RAC usually upgrades to confirmed seats as cancellations are processed, a reversal to waiting list is rare and raises concerns about backend seat allocation and transparency in chart preparation. The Railways closing statement to the query raised by the passenger said: "Dear Customer, your reservation request is processed by the centralized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) of Railways and allotment of accommodation is done by the System without any manual intervention, in case the Final Charts have not been prepared, the Current Status might upgrade/downgrade at a later stage/after charting. After charting status is considered as the final status of your ticket. Note- As per our record, final status of Pnr no. ------2136317404 -- was partially confirmed. However, neither it was cancelled nor TDR was filed for any passengers. So no refund was processed. In case Party Partially Confirmed/Waitlisted And Waitlisted Passengers Did Not Travel, TDR shall be filed up to seventy two hours of actual arrival of the train at passenger's destination and the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff is to be sent through post to IRCTC..."...
