Qualifiers Rishi, Sunil enter pre-quarters of AITA event
LUCKNOW, March 24 -- Uttar Pradesh's Rishi Yadav and Haryana's Sunil Kumar-both qualifiers who advanced to the main draw-secured spots in the pre-quarterfinals of the Swaroop Agarwal Memorial AITA Men's Prize Money Tennis Tournament with upset victories here.
On Monday, during the first round of the main draw, UP's sixth seed Anshuman Singh, along with qualifiers Vansh Yadav and Chinmay Dev Chauhan, also advanced to the next round with wins.
Several players who had progressed from the qualifiers to the main draw secured their spots in the next round by displaying exceptional tennis. Among them, Haryana's Harsh Malik, Rajasthan's Amit, and Kerala's Kaushik impressed everyone with their performance.
In the first round of the main draw, UP's Rishi Yadav-playing as a 'lucky loser'-advanced when his opponent, the fifth seed Tanishq Jadhav from Maharashtra, retired from the match while Yadav was leading 6-3, 2-0.
Meanwhile, qualifier Sunil Kumar from Haryana pulled off a second upset by defeating the seventh seed, Prashant-also from Haryana-with a dominant score of 6-0, 6-0. Qualifier Vansh Yadav from UP registered an impressive victory by defeating Delhi's Saurav Kumar Yadav in a thrilling contest, winning in straight sets via double tie-breakers 7-6(2), 7-6(3).
Chinmay Dev Chauhan from UP-another qualifier who made it to the main draw-secured his place in the second round by defeating Uttarakhand's Arnav 6-1, 6-1. The sixth seed, Anshuman Singh from UP, recorded a victory against Bihar's Vaibhav Singh with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
In other matches, Haryana's Harsh Malik defeated West Bengal's Aditya 6-4, 6-4; second seed Mayank Sharma of Delhi beat West Bengal's Jasraj 6-4, 6-2; third seed Sarthak Gulati of West Bengal overcame Haryana's Aryan 6-4, 6-3; Rajasthan's Amit defeated Haryana's Pringle 6-1, 6-1; Kerala's Kaushik beat fourth seed Ricky Chaudhary of Delhi 7-5, 6-2; and second seed Mukil Ramanan defeated UP's Anuruddh Kumar 6-1, 6-1 to secure a spot in the next round.
It turned out to be a local-affair at the AITA Talent series Tournament, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium as there were no outsiders in the first=round in the boys singles. Asvik Srivastava beat Aarav Verma 6-1, 6-2 at ease.
In other first round matches of the day, Ritvik Asthana beat Kiaan Mulchandani 6-0, 6-0, Arnav Srivastava beat Adhiraj Rajput 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, Pranay Shukla beat Praveer Tilak 7-5, 6-0, Hamdaan beat Vedant Singh 6-3, 6-0, Vivaan Garg beat Anay Pandey 6-3, 6-2....
