LUCKNOW, Jan. 14 -- The Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a one-way underpass beneath Shaheed Path in front of LuLu Mall in Lucknow to tackle persistent traffic congestion in the area. According to officials, the underpass will allow vehicles to move only from the Lulu Mall side towards the opposite side of Shaheed Path. No entry will be permitted in the reverse direction. By separating traffic flows, authorities expect to reduce bottlenecks in the high-footfall commercial zone. "The design has been finalised, with construction expected to begin shortly. The project is targeted for completion by March." The Lulu Mall stretch has long been a congestion hotspot, with traffic jams becoming routine on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Heavy vehicular movement has also led to several accidents in the past, some resulting in serious injuries. An existing underpass located around 600 metres ahead of the mall serves both incoming and outgoing traffic. During peak hours, this dual-use underpass often gets choked. The new underpass will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.2.5 crore. It will be 22 metres long, seven metres wide, with a clearance height of 2.5 metres. Approach roads of about 100 metres on the Lulu Mall side and 120 metres on the opposite side will be developed to ensure smooth access. htc...
