PWD sets up camp office to expedite building acquisition for Dal Mandi road project in Vns
Varanasi, Oct. 15 -- In a bid to accelerate the building acquisition process for the Dal Mandi road widening project, public works department (PWD) officials set up a camp office at the Chowk police station on Tuesday.
KK Singh, executive engineer of the PWD's divisional section in Varanasi, said, "The camp office has been established at the Chowk police station premises to fast-track the acquisition process. A dedicated team of employees has been deployed there to receive ownership documents from property owners affected by the project."
According to Singh, the team will collect and list the ownership documents submitted. On Tuesday, owners of five buildings submitted their documents to the PWD. Many others visited the camp to inquire about the acquisition process and the timeline for receiving compensation. Most of them were shopkeepers and tenants, many of whom raised concerns regarding documentation issues.
Additional district magistrate Vandita Srivastava stated that a total of 187 buildings have been identified for acquisition under the Dal Mandi Road widening project. "These properties will be acquired as per the government's directive, and compensation will be provided at twice the circle rate of the land," she added.
The existing road will be expanded by 8.7 metres on each side.
On Monday, a PWD team pasted acquisition notices on 181 buildings falling under the project scope. Simultaneously, a team led by ADM (City) Alok Kumar Verma conducted public announcements urging property owners to submit their ownership documents at the earliest. While notices were pasted on Sunday evening, only a few property owners have responded so far.
KK Singh confirmed that notices had been issued and urged all affected property owners to visit the camp office with the necessary documents.
The Dal Mandi Road, which spans 650 metres, is slated to be widened to 17.5 metres. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately Rs.221 crore-Rs.23.99 crore allocated for civil works, Rs.194 crore for compensation, and Rs.3 crore for utility shifting, including the relocation of electric poles, sewer lines, and water pipelines....
