Push for self-reliant Gaushalas pays off
PRAYAGRAJ, May 14 -- The Kanha Gaushalas functioning under the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) are on their way to becoming financially independent and self-reliant.
As part of these efforts, vermicompost is being produced in the Kanha Gaushala built in Shankargarh, located in the trans-Yamuna area of the district, around 40 km from Sangam city.
PMC's livestock welfare officer Vijay Amrit Raj shared that 2,773 livestock have been given shelter in this Kanha Gaushala. A vermicompost-making unit has also been set up here, through which compost worth more than Rs 1.75 lakh was produced and sold in the last financial year. Apart from this, there is also a plan in the pipeline to make other cow-based products, he added.
There are three Kanha Gaushalas in Prayagraj, including one each at Bamrauli, Gohri (bulls only), and Shankargarh. Of these, the Shankargarh Kanha Gaushala has taken a step towards becoming self-reliant, he shared.
The civic administration has also prepared a plan for the two other gaushalas in the district. According to PMC's livestock welfare officer Vijay Amrit Raj, a proposal to develop the Kanha Gaushala set up at Bamrauli as a model gaushala in the district has been finalised by the municipal corporation. However, the budget for this has not yet been allocated, he said.
The official said that, apart from making vermicompost on a large scale, there are plans to make diyas and other such items from cow dung, including incense sticks, havan-kunds, mobile stands, wall hangings, wall frames, and name plates, as part of efforts to make these Kanha Gaushalas self-reliant....
