Meerut, Sept. 5 -- A farmer from Punjab's Kapurthala, who was on his way to Nanakmatta in Uttarakhand for a pilgrimage, was kidnapped in Bareilly by six miscreants and held hostage for ransom. Police rescued him safely and arrested two accused on Thursday, while a search is on for four others. According to police, Darshan Singh, a resident of Kapurthala district, left for Nanakmatta on August 30. He was abducted near Kandharpur village in Bareilly. He was held captive near the railway crossing and threatened to kill if ransom was not paid. The kidnappers forced his family via video calls to transfer Rs.1.50 lakh into their bank account and later demanded an additional Rs.3 lakh.
