Dehradun, Jan. 5 -- People from various walks of life, social organisations, and political parties, marched towards the chief minister's residence in Dehradun on Sunday, demanding a CBI probe into the Pauri Garhwal receptionist murder case to investigate an alleged "VIP" linked to the crime. The ruling BJP, however, rejected the allegations and accused the opposition of politicising the receptionist's murder. On Sunday, protests intensified at Hathibarkala, where barricades were set up, leading to a confrontation between demonstrators and police personnel. Former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat said, "The government says: 'Give us credible evidence; we are ready for any investigation.' But the government appears to be frightened. The victim had clearly said that she was being pressured to provide 'special services' to a VIP and was being threatened and intimidated... Has the government investigated this statement?" BJP state general secretary Kundan Parihar said, "Congress leaders and other opposition parties have been indulging in disgusting politics over the death of the Pauri Garhwal receptionist woman." He said that by adding new names without evidence, attempts were being made to malign BJP leaders, tarnish the image of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, and insult the victim's memory.
