Protest erupts at Knp college after student dies in collision
KANPUR, Feb. 26 -- Heavy police deployment was made here at the Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology (PSIT) in Panki on Wednesday after protests turned violent following the death of a 21-year-old student in a campus accident.
Prakhar Singh, a final-year BCA student, died after his motorcycle rammed into a stationary JCB machine during ongoing construction work on Monday evening.
The accident occurred around 5 pm as he was leaving the campus. Police said dust caused by construction activity and a passing vehicle allegedly reduced visibility, leading to the collision.
He was taken to a private hospital but was declared dead.
Students and family members alleged negligence by the college management. A silent march escalated into vandalism, prompting police intervention.
Some students alleged that police used force, including a lathi charge, to disperse the crowd. However, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) S M Qasim Abidi denied the allegation.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police remained deployed as tensions persisted....
