Prof Badri Narayan appointed VC of TISS
PRAYAGRAJ, July 31 -- Professor Badri Narayan Tiwari, a renowned social historian, cultural anthropologist, and director of the Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI), Prayagraj, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, according to GBPSSI officials.
Earlier in the day, Prof Tiwari handed over the charge of GBPSSI to associate professor Archana Singh before departing for Mumbai.
Prof Badri Narayan confirmed having taken over the charge as VC of TISS in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
An order for his appointment was issued on Wednesday by Purnendu Kishore Banerjee, joint secretary of the Ministry of Education, New Delhi.
An alumnus of Allahabad University, Prof Tiwari earned his MA in Modern History and completed his PhD (1988-1993) from the same institution. He was currently serving his second consecutive term as director of GBPSSI, having first assumed the post in June 2017 for a five-year term and subsequently being reappointed.
In addition to his academic credentials, Prof Tiwari is an acclaimed Hindi poet and writer. He was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2022 for his poetry collection Tumdi Ke Shabd....
