Prayagraj, June 2 -- Lakhan Pasi, a 104-year-old Dalit man who was finally acquitted after spending nearly 48 years in jail for a murder he says he never committed, remains quiet and withdrawn, mourning loss of his wife, two of his children, and a life affected by decades of delayed justice. Since his release from prison on May 20, he has been living with his daughter in Kaushambi. Arrested in 1977 after a village altercation turned fatal, Lakhan was convicted in 1982 despite questionable evidence. His family struggled financially, selling land and changing lawyers to fight for his release.
