Prisoner escapes from SRN Hosp again, two constables suspended
PRAYAGRAJ, May 2 -- Days after an accused rapist escaped from custody, another undertrial prisoner-charged with murdering his own son-fled from Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj on Thursday evening. Police have yet to trace the escaped accused even on the second day of the search. Two constables on duty at the time of the incident have been suspended.
The escaped prisoner has been identified as Babulal (45), a resident of Chaubepur village under the Antu police station area in Pratapgarh district. He has been lodged in the district jail since December 2025 on charges of allegedly killing his son by repeatedly slamming him to the ground, reportedly in an attempt to falsely implicate his wife and her alleged lover.
According to official sources, Babulal's health deteriorated on April 25, following which he was admitted to the Medical College in Pratapgarh. Later the same night, he was referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for advanced treatment. A total of six constables from different police stations were deployed to guard him at the hospital in three eight-hour shifts.
On Thursday around 7.30 pm, when constables Vinay Kumar of Maheshganj police station and Shivaji Yadav of Raniganj police station were on duty, Babulal managed to escape from custody under circumstances that are now under investigation.
Following the incident, constable Shivaji Yadav informed senior officials, after which the deputy jailer reached Prayagraj and lodged a formal complaint. A case has been registered against the escaped prisoner as well as the two on-duty constables for negligence.htc...
