Primary teacher allegedly beats up student, tapes her mouth
LUCKNOW, Nov. 22 -- A Class 5 girl was allegedly beaten by a teacher at a government primary school in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The teacher also taped the child's mouth to stop her from crying out.
The incident took place at PM Shri School, Dulhi in the Ramiya Behar block. According to the family, the student, Riya, returned home visibly distressed and complained that an assistant teacher had beaten her severely and taped her mouth shut.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the basic education officer (BEO) conducted an inquiry, following which the teacher was placed under suspension.
Confirming the incident, BSA Praveen Kumar said that an inquiry had been instituted which found the teacher not only engaged in physical punishment but also frequently arrived late to school and had a history of misbehaving with students.
Education authorities said a detailed departmental investigation is underway, and strict action will follow....
