LUCKNOW, Nov. 18 -- Young spinner Kartik Yadav made his presence felt in his debut match for Uttar Pradesh with a five-wicket haul against hosts Tamil Nadu on the second day of their four-day Elite Group A encounter, at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Ground in Coimbatore on Monday. Prayagraj's Yadav, who has 29 wickets to his name in the last season of Col CK Nayudu Trophy, excelled with his left-arm orthodox spin with his first five-wicket haul (5/103) to get Tamil Nadu out for 455 in their first essay on Monday. In reply, Uttar Pradesh were off to a fine start as they finished at 87/1. The visitors still need 369 runs to take the first innings lead. Resuming at the overnight score of 282/5, Tamil Nadu kept batting well with overnight batter and centurion Baba Indrajith sending the ball nicely across the park. He added 21 more runs to his overnight score of 128 before being bowled by Kartik Yadav on 149, which came off 188 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and five sixes. This wicket, however, helped Uttar Pradesh break Tamil Nadu's rhythm as then Yadav kept foxing rival batters with his googlies and occasional left-arm spin. A 110-run seventh-wicket stand between Ajitesh G and R Sonu Uadav, though, challenged Uttar Pradesh bowlers. However, Yadav forced Ajitesh to offer a straight catch to skipper Karan Sharma after the batter made 153-ball 86 with the help of nine boundaries and a six, and then removed skipper R Sai Kishore (14) caught by Rinku Singh and Warrier (0) after Karan Sharma castled Yadav for 44, which came off 106 balls with the help of two boundaries and a six. Barring Yadav, Uttar Pradesh bowling looked depleted in the absence of pacer Aaquib Khan, who took 2/13 in his nine overs on Day One on Sunday before being injured. Kunal Tyagi took 2/51. Later, Uttar Pradesh openers and Delhi boys Abhishek Goiswami and Madhav Kaushik gave a solid start to the side, stitching together 73 runs for the opening wicket. Kaushiuk was the only one to go back to the pavilion on Day Two after being bowled by R Sai Kishore. He made 21 in 61 balls with the help of two boundaries. Kaushik's departure didn't make much difference to Goswami, who kept attacking the rival bowlers and hit eight boundaries and a six in his unbeaten 104-ball 54. Keeper-batter Aryan Juyal (8) was giving company to Goswami at the close of stumps on Monday....
