Prayagraj goldsmith murder: Accused surrenders before chief judicial magistrate after evading police
Prayagraj, Aug. 23 -- The main accused in the broad daylight murder of goldsmith Aman Soni on August 16 in Harakhpur village, under the Mauaima police station area of Prayagraj, surrendered in court on Friday. The accused, Prem Patel, dressed as a lawyer, managed to evade police and appeared before the chief judicial magistrate in Prayagraj.
Aman Soni was fatally stabbed in the throat. Two other individuals implicated in the murder had already been arrested and sent to jail.
According to reports, Prem Patel was allegedly angered by the deceased's persistent harassment of his married cousin sister. On August 16, around 3 pm, Patel reportedly stabbed Aman Soni 15 times before disposing of his body in a canal.
Following the shocking murder, three police teams, including the crime branch, conducted extensive raids for five days, searching for Patel. Despite their efforts, they were unable to locate him. However, Patel unexpectedly appeared at the court, dressed as a lawyer, and surrendered on Friday. His counsel, Kumar Pandey, accompanied him during the surrender.
Prem Patel's two accomplices, Shivam and Deependra alias Devdutt, had already been incarcerated. Pankaj Awasthi, SHO of Mauaima police station, confirmed that a case had been registered based on the complaint filed by the deceased's father.
A woman in Prayagraj ended her life on Thursday evening after being allegedly beaten by her husband. The incident occurred under the Airport police station area.
Police were informed and reached the scene, sending the body for postmortem. No formal complaint has been filed by the deceased's family.
According to reports, the husband, a daily wage labourer, had an argument with his wife on Thursday evening, which escalated into a physical assault.
Airport police station SHO Vinay Singh stated that the postmortem report confirmed the death by hanging. No allegations have been made by the woman's maternal family.
Cyber fraudsters allegedly created a fake Facebook ID using the photo of Prayagraj additional police commissioner Ajaypal Sharma and duped a youth of Tagore Town of Rs.15,000, officials said.
The victim, Varun Kumar Shukla of Maruti Vihar Colony, lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime police station.
Cyber Crime police station incharge Anil Kumar Verma said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR had been registered and investigation was ongoing. The accused would be arrested soon, he added.
In his complaint, Shukla alleged that on August 17, he was contacted through the fake Facebook account and the fraudster posing as the additional police commissioner, claimed that his friend, CRPF commandant Santosh Kumar, had been transferred to Jammu and wanted to sell household goods....
