PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 12 -- In a rare public tribute to the police force, inspector Upendra Pratap Singh of Jhunsi police station received a 'King Size' farewell on a flower-decked chariot covering nearly half a kilometre from the station on Sunday afternoon. The video of the event has gone viral on social media.The 2015-batch UP Police officer was cheered by locals, raising slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. Police constables, residents, and public representatives garlanded Singh and joined the procession.Singh had gained prominence for being among the few officers to seize illegal properties of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed between 2021 and 2023.He served as the station in-charge of Pura Mufti from 2021 to 2023 and as the station house officer (SHO) of Jhunsi from 2023 to 2025. Though transferred to the Varanasi commissionerate last year, he was retained until after Maha Kumbh 2025.ACP (Jhunsi) Vimal Kishore Mishra said Singh upheld the department's image through his work against the mafia and during the Mahakumbh.
