PRAYAGRAJ, July 9 -- Two teenage girls who escaped from a government-run One-Stop Centre in Pratapgarh on Sunday night were traced by police near Ramleela Maidan late Monday evening, nearly 22 hours after they fled the facility, police said. "A case was registered, and three police teams were deployed to investigate. Both women constables on duty at the time have been suspended for dereliction of duty," Shailendra Lal, additional superintendent of police (East), Pratapgarh, said. The girls, both rescued in separate kidnapping and rape cases, had been kept at the One-Stop Center located near the Bhuliyapur Police Outpost under Nagar Kotwali police station limits. They were under protective custody while undergoing medical examinations and recording their statements. According to officials, one of the girls had been recovered from Lalganj three days earlier, and the other from Jethwara about a week ago. Both were placed at the shelter for temporary protection. The escape occurred around 9 pm on Sunday when one of the assigned constables, Rachna, reportedly left for the hospital after informing the staff about her illness. The second constable was away in the bathroom. During this period, the girls approached a staff member near the gate and managed to slip out, according to police.
