LUCKNOW, Nov. 13 -- Electricity employees, junior engineers, and officers on Wednesday staged statewide protests against privatisation and Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) vertical restructuring plan. Demonstrations were held in every district of Uttar Pradesh, including major cities such as Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Noida, and Ghaziabad, where thousands of electricity workers opposed the state government's move to restructure the LESA, a step they believe paves the way for privatisation. Shailendra Dubey, convenor of Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, claimed that LESA restructuring was a strategy to eliminate thousands of sanctioned posts and make the corporation ready for private takeover. The committee announced that if the LESA restructuring order is not withdrawn, protests will be held at Shakti Bhawan headquarters in Lucknow daily until November 15.
