Lucknow, June 28 -- Power sector employees across UP observed a state-wide "Warning Day" on Friday on the call of the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, protesting what they termed an "undeclared emergency" in UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The protestors condemned alleged harassment through State Vigilance and demanded a vigilance probe into top UPPCL bosses. In gatherings held across all districts and major power projects, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Noida, and Kanpur, employees pledged to launch a mass jail bharo movement if attempts at victimisation and privatisation continued. The committee alleged that thousands of transfers, arbitrary terminations of contract workers, and changes in service rules-allowing dismissal without inquiry-were aimed at crushing dissent. It said FIRs had now been lodged against union leaders to instill fear, following the June 22 "Bijli Mahapanchayat". The protest witnessed widespread participation in cities including Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra, Bareilly, Aligarh, and Jhansi.
