LUCKNOW, Jan. 9 -- A sub-divisional officer (SDO) and junior engineer (JE) of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. were suspended for negligence of duties on Thursday after Vrindavan Colony experienced a blackout lasting over 12 hours on January 4, department officials confirmed. Following complaints from residents and an on-ground review, managing director Riya Kejriwal suspended SDO Amit Popale, while JE Vishwakarma Sharma was suspended on the orders of superintending engineer Rajeev Kumar Yadav of the Amausi zone. The SDO has been attached to Bareilly and the JE to Shakti Bhavan. A departmental committee has been formed to investigate the incident. According to department officials, power supply to the Sector-6B and Sector-6C feeders of Vrindavan Colony failed suddenly on January 4. The prolonged outage, which began at 12:55 pm and continued until 1:05 am. Despite repeated complaints by consumers, no effective action was taken for several hours. Staff who reached the substation failed to restore the supply. By 8 pm, frustrated residents surrounded the Sector-5D substation in protest.
