Lucknow, April 6 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti on Sunday urged chief minister Yogi Adityanath to immediately roll back the "vertical restructuring" in the power sector, warning that failure to do so could disrupt electricity supply during the peak summer months. The appeal follows opposition to the arrangement from several public representatives, including former Union minister Kaushal Kishore, Rajya Sabha MP and former BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai, and MLA Amit Agarwal, who heads the Assembly's estimates committee. In a statement, the employees' body said the power corporation management should not treat the restructuring as a matter of prestige and must withdraw it in the larger public interest. It alleged that the system, implemented in cities such as Lucknow and Ayodhya, was emerging as a serious threat to smooth power supply, especially with demand expected to surge in the coming summer. The Samiti claimed that similar concerns were raised earlier by Agarwal in September 2025 after reviewing the situation in Meerut, and by Bajpai, along with other public representatives, who have called for scrapping the arrangement. Citing Kishore's recent remarks on social media, the body said the vertical system was not in the interest of employees, engineers or consumers and should be withdrawn without delay. The Samiti also opposed the alleged large-scale removal of low-paid contractual workers and reduction of regular posts under the restructuring. It warned that with power demand likely to touch or exceed 36,000 MW in summer, the absence of experienced manpower could strain operations. " If the restructuring is not rolled back and removed contractual workers are not reinstated, the power corporation management will be responsible for any breakdown in electricity supply during summer," Samiti convenor Shailendra Dubey cauioned.
