Potholes everywhere, LMC begins quick fix with construction waste
LUCKNOW, Aug. 8 -- Daily commuters continue to face hardships as damaged roads and potholes widen across major stretches of the city after six straight days of rainfall. With no permanent repair work planned until the monsoon ends, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has begun using construction and demolition waste to temporarily fill potholes and reduce accident risk.
Key roads, including the Samta Mulak-Lohiya Polytechnic intersection, the stretch near the Dial 112 office, G-20 Road to Janeshwar Park Gate No 6, Aliganj Sector B, Dalibagh, and several parts of Indira Nagar have become hazardous, putting thousands of commuters at risk.
"We are currently filling large potholes on main roads with construction and demolition material as a temporary measure to avoid mishaps. Permanent repairs will begin only after the monsoon ends in September," LMC chief engineer (Civil) Mahesh Verma said.
He added that resurfacing cannot be done during rain, as construction material fails to settle in wet conditions. Citizens may continue reporting major potholes through the LMC helpline.
Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob has raised concerns over the condition of the Lucknow-Kanpur Elevated Expressway. During her return from Unnao on Thursday, Jacob observed several rainwater-filled potholes and haphazard construction debris between Banthra and Nadarganj.
In a letter to the project director of the state highway authority, the divisional commissioner noted that poor road conditions were disrupting traffic and increasing the risk of accidents. The letter also mentioned machinery and construction material scattered in the middle of the road, obstructing movement.
Jacob instructed the concerned department to undertake immediate repairs and ensure all equipment and materials are stored in an orderly manner to facilitate smooth traffic flow. htc...
