New Delhi, Jan. 29 -- There was poor visibility at the Baramati airport before the aircraft carrying Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar crashed, Union aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the pilot could not sight the runway on its first landing attempt, the minister said.
"The preliminary information that I received from the (AAIB) team in the morning was that the first time the pilot wanted to land at Baramati, there was a visibility problem; he was not able to sight the runway. He communicated it to the ATC and the ATC suggested a go-around. So, he hovered around the runway," said Naidu.
The minister said that when the pilot contacted ATC again, they asked about sighting the runway.
"The pilot seemed to have sighted the runway and the clearance was given for landing and that was when this incident also happened. So, we just need an in-depth look at that time at what has happened," Naidu said, adding that the AAIB will probe into the matter....
