Police unravel plot behind Lko man's killing
LUCKNOW, Dec. 9 -- The Nigohan police have cracked a chilling murder case in which a 42-year-old man was kidnapped, strangled and his body set ablaze in a deserted patch of Unnao to wipe out evidence. "Five men including a property dealer believed to be the key conspirator, have been arrested, while another accused, Dilip Rawat, remains on the run," said ADCP South Vasanth Rallapalli.
According to police, the killing stemmed from a dispute over a 44-biswa parcel of land along the Lucknow-Rae Bareli highway. The plot, originally owned by the victim's mother, had been transferred through a chain of contested deals that were later challenged in court by the victim, Kabir alias Shiv Prakash. Those arrested have been identified as Sujit Kumar Srivastava, Pintu, Vinod, Lalu alias Neeraj Kashyap and Raju alias Rajkumar. Two cars used in the abduction were seized. The main associate, Dilip, is absconding.
According to police, on November 19, the victim's friend Surendra Kumar filed a missing report after Kabir failed to return home on November 15. "Police began searching neighbouring districts, contacting Raebareli and Unnao officials as his phone number's last location was found in Raebareli. Soon after, Bighapur police reported the recovery of a half-burnt unidentified male body. Photographs confirmed the remains were Kabir's," said the ADCP. The missing case was converted into a murder FIR, and investigators immediately turned their focus to the land dispute Kabir had been contesting.
Police said Sujit Kumar Srivastava, a property dealer with a criminal history, had helped orchestrate the sale of the valuable land through multiple parties in 2019, eventually transferring it to a private developer for a significant sum. Kabir challenged the transaction in court, naming his brother and the intermediaries in the case. Investigators said Sujit and his associates feared that if Kabir prevailed, the registry could be overturned and they might have to refund the money received from the developer. This, police said, became the motive for eliminating Kabir. "On November 15, Dilip phoned Kabir from a number the victim recognised and summoned him to Lalpur Tower. Two cars with six men were already waiting. When Kabir resisted getting inside, the men forcibly dragged him into the vehicle. To avoid CCTV cameras, the group used village link roads and travelled toward Raebareli district. Inside the moving car, the accused strangled Kabir," added the ADCP....
