Police team faces resistance during arrest of externed criminal
PRAYAGRAJ, March 2 -- A police team attempting to arrest a criminal externed from the district faced resistance in Icholi village under Kokhraj police station area in Kaushambi on Saturday night. Women members of the accused's family allegedly misbehaved with officers and threatened to implicate them in cases related to crimes against women. Despite the resistance, police arrested the accused and completed legal formalities.
Sunil Tiwari alias Mithun, a resident of Icholi village, had been externed from the district on February 19 on the orders of District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma following a police report. However, he was found at his residence on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, Singhiya police outpost in-charge Anshuman Mishra, along with the SOG team, conducted a raid. During the operation, women of the family allegedly created a ruckus, tried to prevent the arrest and dialled 1076, threatening to level allegations of misconduct against the officers.
Police used minimal force to take Sunil into custody. The FIR mentions the alleged indecent behaviour and threats but does not name any woman as an accused. Officials said further action would be taken if required. SHO Kokhraj Chandrabhushan Maurya said the situation was later brought under control through persuasion.
