Prayagraj, Nov. 11 -- In a joint operation, Saini Kotwali police in Kaushambi and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested three members of an inter-district smuggling gang on Monday morning. Police recovered over 44 kilograms of marijuana from their car. According to officials, the marijuana was brought from Odisha and was being transported to Khaga in Fatehpur. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a vehicle check near the Sasurkhaderi River on the Dhata-Sirathu Road. A car without a number plate was stopped by the police. The occupants tried to escape but were caught after a short chase. Those arrested were identified as Nikhil Mishra of Mau, Chitrakoot; Kallu Patel of Ahmedganj, Karbi, Chitrakoot; and Anil Singh of Kopamau, Chitrakoot. During questioning, the accused said they had received the consignment from a man in Odisha and were asked to deliver it to another person in Khaga, Fatehpur. They claimed they did not know the recipient and would have met him only upon reaching Khaga. Police seized the car and the drugs, registered a case, and sent the accused to jail. In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in a village under Manjhanpur police station area of Kaushambi. According to reports, the girl's mother caught the accused, identified as Umashankar Mishra of Basuhar, in the act inside his rented room. When she raised an alarm, he threw the child out of the room, locked it, and fled. The woman lodged a complaint at Manjhanpur police station. Following the complaint, police registered a case and began an investigation. Superintendent of Police (Kaushambi) Rajesh Kumar said the accused was arrested on Sunday night while trying to flee to Rae Bareli.
