Police plan upgrades after Ny temple rush puts Lko traffic under strain
LUCKNOW, Jan. 3 -- An unprecedented rush of devotees to major temples on New Year's Day put severe pressure on traffic across the city, prompting senior police officials to review arrangements and plan improvements for the future, according to a police press release issued on Friday.
Police Commissioner Amrendra Singh Sengar chaired a joint meeting of traffic and civil police, which noted that over five lakh devotees arrived in nearly one lakh vehicles on January 1. Unlike previous years, a large number of people chose temple visits over malls and tourist spots, leading to heavy congestion around Hanuman Setu, Khatu Shyam Temple, Mankameshwar Temple and Hanumant Dham, all located within a one-kilometre radius.
The commissioner directed preparation of event-specific diversion plans, improved coordination with LDA and PWD, deployment of additional personnel and better parking management to handle future crowd-related traffic challenges. htc...
