Police nab key accused during encounter, four others still at large
LUCKNOW, May 31 -- Continuing crackdown on the perpetrators involved in Sarvodaya Nagar shootout case, the Ghazipur police arrested the key accused after he suffered a bullet injury in a police encounter near Kalyan Apartment in Luvkushnagar here on Friday morning.
Farman Ali is the key accused in the case who shot at hotel owner/ property dealer Mursaleen after chasing him for about 1 kilometre in broad daylight on May 25.
The police have already sent his three accomplices to jail while the hunt for the other four is on. Eight criminals were named in the case and Ali carried a cash reward of Rs 10,000 on his arrest.
Mursaleen was shot thrice in the shootout and is under treatment at a hospital.
DCP Lucknow East Shashank Singh said that the police were conducting a checking drive early on Friday morning. "The team stopped a car, looking suspicious, near Khurramnagar embankment road. Instead of stopping the car, the driver increased the speed of the vehicle. When the police chased the car, the driver rammed it into a divider near Lavkushnagar Kalyan Apartment in a hurry to escape," the DCP said.
He said the driver opened fire on the police team while fleeing. "In retaliatory action by the police, he was shot in the leg. A pistol, cartridges, shells and the car were recovered from him. Later the driver was identified as Farman Ali, a resident of Takrohi. On May 25, while eating food in Ghazipur, he had an argument with his relative Mursaleen," he said....
