Police nab five, seize loot worth Rs 15 lakh
KANPUR, Aug. 29 -- Five members of an inter-state gang, all from the same family in Bihar's Araria district, were arrested in a joint operation in Kanpur on Thursday, officials said.The operation by the Railway Protection Force ,Government Railway Police and the detective wing led to the recovery of 19 mobile phones, Rs 50,000 in cash, 692 grams of silver ornaments and 19 grams of gold jewellery, valued at over Rs 15 lakh. The action followed a special drive carried out on August 27 in the Kanpur Central area.Railway spokesperson Amit Singh said the gang would rent rooms near Kanpur Central station and target passengers in crowded areas. They allegedly stole bags and valuables before passing them on to other members of their network.
Investigators added that the accused also confessed to stealing and snatching mobile phones and bags through train windows when trains slowed down. htc...
