PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 8 -- In a major breakthrough, Meja police have arrested a man involved in stealing petrol and diesel from an underground pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd passing through the Khukhudi village under Manda police station limits. The accused has been sent to jail following interrogation and legal formalities, confirmed police officials. According to Meja police station SHO, Deendayal Singh, a group of individuals had been illegally siphoning off fuel from the Barauni-Kanpur underground pipeline near Khukhudi village. Acting on a complaint filed by Siddharth Awasthi, manager at Indian Oil Corporation Limited and a resident of Patel Nagar Colony, Bahraich, police had launched an investigation into the matter. Awasthi informed that in 2014, a shop owned by Tilakraj Singh of Badpur Manda was rented out. A hidden well was dug inside the premises, which was connected to the underground pipeline to facilitate the theft of petrol and diesel. Following the investigation, police filed a case against more than half a dozen individuals. Four were arrested and sent to jail earlier, while three remained at large. Based on a tip-off, the Meja police team, led by SHO Deendayal Singh, apprehended Ravi alias Viddi alias Vicky, a resident of Aruwashahpur village, Chhainsa police station, Faridabad district, Haryana, near Khusro Bagh in the city on Tuesday. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he, along with Ramhari alias Kuldeep from Bhankarpur Basaila, district Mathura, and other accomplices, had rented a building near the Prayagraj-Mirzapur road in Khukhudi village and operated a roadside eatery (dhaba) as a front. A secret pipeline was laid from the underground petroleum line to the dhaba premises to extract the fuel. The operation was reportedly monitored by Kuldeep, SHO shared.
